Our office is proud to offer the advancement of drill-free air abrasion dentistry – a technology so simple and effective that in many cases, it can eliminate the need for anesthesia.
Air abrasion technology uses fine, harmless particles to gently work away areas of decay with painless precision. As a result, the need for dental drills is reduced or eliminated – as is the need for oral or injectable numbing agents.
Air abrasion technology provides great accuracy and can be used for the removal of minor areas of decay, as well as some soft tissue procedures. Compared with traditional drilling methods, air abrasion offers the following advantages:
- Generates no heat, sound, pressure, or vibration
- Reduces the need for anesthesia, particularly if the cavity is shallow
- Leaves much more of the healthy tooth tissue behind
- Leaves the working area relatively dry, which is an advantage for placement of composite fillings
- Reduces the risk of microfracturing and chipping of the tooth, which can lead to premature restorative failures
- Allows the dentist to treat multiple sites in the mouth during a single visit
